"What's this blog all about?" you may ask...

In order to make information more accessible, I've begun moving posts about current alumni news and reunion news from the Central History blog to this new blog. All new posts about alumni news and reunions will be posted on this blog, but the Central History blog will continue to have links to reunion news.

During the transition, some posts may appear on both blogs. Be patient. Also, if you encounter any broken links, please send me an e-mail or leave a comment. I can only repair them if I know they're broken.

Madison Central High School Class of 1957 sets a date for its 50th reunion

Two weeks ago, there was a brief announcement about the Class of 1957's plans for its 50th reunion in Kris Crary's "Scrapbook" column in the Wisconsin State Journal. It said the reunion was scheduled for July 21, 2007 at the Elks Club in Madison. I've e-mailed the contact person, Sharon Lee Olle, for more details, but haven't received a reply yet. As soon as I have more details, I'll post them on this blog.

Two recent photographs of the Central arch

Walking on West Dayton Street towards Wisconsin Avenue this afternoon, I stopped to take a photograph of the Central arch, the only remaining vestige of the Cass Gilbert-designed building that was home to Madison Central High School until from 1908 until 1969.

I wanted to take some photographs of the inside of the arch, but there was no access from either the MATC side or the Wisconsin Avenue side. Perhaps the orange barrier is seasonal. Let's hope it's not a harbinger of another attempt to demolish the arch.

Note: These post also appears on the CHS Class of 1965 blog

At least Madison Central High School alumni still have a visual reminder of their school...

When Wisconsin High School closed in 1964, it merged with Madison Central High School, which then became known as Central-University High School.

Central-University High School closed in 1969 and its Cass Gilbert-designed building was razed to make way for an MATC parking lot. But at least Central alumni have a visible symbol of their school in the Central arch on Wisconsin Avenue (shown in the previous post).

Wisconsin High School alumni aren't so fortunate. I've written a long post (with several photos) about what happened to the Wisconsin High School building for the Class of 1965 blog. Please click HERE to read that post.

Class of 1966 Reunion Photos

Posting photos increases the amount of time it takes for a page to load. That's why I've decided to move large collections of photos to Flickr. My original thought was that I would use a single Flickr Pro account for all the photo groups I posted. But when you receive scores and scores of photos from one class, it begins to make more sense to create several specialized Flickr accounts.

This also saves me lots of time, since it puts the burden of labeling, describing, and tagging the photos on the members of the class reunion committee.

Tonight, as I battle insomnia, I created a Flickr account for the Class of 1966 and uploaded 40 photos taken at their Friday night get-together at the Pub on September 29, 2006, plus a JPG file that identifies the people in the photos until the reunion committee finishes labeling and describing individual photos. I've also created a Flickr badge for this account: It's at the bottom of the sidebar (material on the right hand side of this page).

If you have friends, siblings, or classmates in the Class of 1966, you'll want to check the class Flickr site periodically for updates.
